I agree with you. I don't like to presumption of resolutions. If you don't meet those resolutions(within 3 weeks or 6 months) you are immediately labeled a failure. Who wants to go through life that hanging over their head? Certainly not me, I have enough failure baggage as it is!
I think the idea of setting year long goals is more appropriate. As the year passes, you can re-evaulate those goals and alter what you may (or may not) be doing. You can grow more as a person by seeking to reach a goal and not just shrink your waist size out of vanity.
